Lady Donli has been heralded as one of the strongest talents Nigerian music’s new wave has seen, and quite rightly so.
From her work on Mr Eazi’s Lagos to London opener to the thoughtful video for the fantastic “Games”, Lady Donli keeps proving that she is unrivaled amongst her peers, and she has done it again with her latest track, the Kida Kudz-assisted “Classic”.
Produced by Toye Aru, “Classic” is adorned with accentuated bass and electric guitars, played by Kingsley Okorie and Segun Adegbamigbe respectively. The beat is classic, as the song’s name promises, with its country-rock leanings providing the perfect platform for this neo-soul star to shine.
On the smooth track, Lady Donli uses both Hausa and English to express her confused attraction. Whilst she praises her Mr Fantastic as a classic man, she also impatiently questions why he constantly blows up her phone, even calling his love for her tragic.
Coming in on the song’s second verse, Kida Kudz boasts of his performance in the bedroom, promising to never leave his lover, and instructing her to forget his ex. Kida delivers a laid-back flow, as he insists on a classic style to match Lady Donli’s soft and charming vocals.
